"I decide my own fate, no one else, even if I have to die to prove it."

Text is supposed to be here, but it isn't... but it looks WEIRD without a big ol' blurb so I have to keep this funky placeholder stuff here!!

Also THIS IS A DRAFT!! JUST LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE!!! NOT FINISHED OR REFINED AT ALL AND IT LOOKS LIKE STRAIGHT ASS HIGH-KEY. THANK YOU AND I'M SORRY. I PINKY PROMISE THIS'LL LOOK BETTER LATER WHEN I'M NOT SWAMPED WITH SCHOOL WORK AND SUFFERING.

Stuff to fill gaps, huh... Virgil is a self-insert, if that was not obvious. This fucking freakazoid is quite literally me to an extent. Wink wonk.
I'll tell you the old ideas I had for him while you're here. The spider he was bitten by used to be an "alien god syringe", basically. It's no longer that, but it used to be!

The venom in the spider was tailored specifically to turn a specific race of 'aliens' into gods, or at least be very close to godhood. Since Virgil is not an 'alien', his body sort of freaked the fuck out and the venom messed with him a bit. Take that and looting a literal UFO for parts and ta-da!! Spider-Man- I mean Web-Surfer!!

I was planning to shove five Ultrakillion religious iconography and references, just because, too! It was mostly compared to the Egyptian god Set for being the embodiment of chaos in a way... but Virgil doesn't get pregnant from suspicious lettuce.

Okay, weird yapping part over. Have a freaktastic day.

Biography

Early Life

Virgil Vesper Voltspun was born in Disco, Wisconsin to United Republic of Leathucaria (URL) government nuclear missile engineers Vanilla and Velvet Voltspun. As their work hindered their ability to care for their child, Virgil was cared for during the majority of his childhood by Gingersnap and Brie Voltspun, moving into their abode in Ville de Nouvelle Yorke, Nouvelle Yorke. Virgil strongly dislikes his relatives at best.

Virgil has had multiple developmental delays which swelled into a myriad of problems, the sources of which have never checked by a psychiatrist at the dismissal of both its parents and relatives. Virgil learned to 'cope' over time and eventually reintergrated into formal K12 education at the end of his fifth year of elementary school.
These abnormalities and delays did not go unnoticed by the people around it, however. He served as a prime target for bullying and exclusion due to his percieved (including but not limited to) eccentricism, unregulated mental health problems, extreme reclusiveness, self-imposed isolation, lashing out and/or fleeing during emotional outbursts, social ineptitude, incapacity for friendship, misanthropy, and extreme obsessions over unorthodox interests. This was particularly prevalent to it during his middle school years — mostly perpetrated by Eugene 'Flash' Thompson and Elizabeth 'Liz' Allan — through ableist behavior, social exclusion, death threats, and teasing (among others) that has seemingly permanently skewed Virgil's self-perception.

Spider Bite

When Virgil was thirteen, it went on a week-long school field trip to visit the National Astronomy Convention, an annual event stationed at Oscorp Industies in Ville de Nouvelle Yorke, Nouvelle Yorke. Interest in outer space had increased considerably over the past few centuries due to the Dyson sphere constructed around Sol's white dwarf twin, Surya, along with major progress regarding space exploration and science. This eventually led to a wide variety of companies — such as Oscorp — to indulge in these fields, primarily for money and publicity.
It was there he attended an exhibition of the Dark Energy Accelerator, a device proposed to be used on humans looking to inhabit non-Earth planets by using dark energy and Spacetime Scars as a tool to "accelerate the optimal evolution of a trait" to adjust to a planet's environment, such as different gravity, more or less sunlight, etc.

During the demonstration, instead of beaming a dog named Juice like it was supposed to, its rays were instead absorbed by a small spider. The spider, panicking, ran around wildly and onto the neck of the short-for-his-age middle schooler, biting him before dying from its irradiation and permanently altering Virgil's biology. Virgil, overwhelmed with sudden nausea, slipped out to go for a walk and initially discovered his abilities through accidentally sticking to the wall of an alleyway.
Virgil connected his powers and symptoms to the spider bite he had recieved immediately. Upon his return to Wisconsin, he tried his best to uncover the full extent of his mutation and how to live with it, primarily his wrists producing thick webbing, heightened senses, a sixth-sense (dubbed a Spidey-Sense or Webby-Sense), and drastically increased strength and metabolism.

Virgil wasn't sure what to do with his new mutation. His school trip had inspired him with a bonus tour of Stark Industries and the Avengers Museum/history lecture, however, they were only involved in world ending threats, such as meteors and rampaging machines that only ever seemed to affect Nouvelle Yorke and New Jersey on occasion. The X-Men were mostly the same, along with the Great Lakes X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and other superhero teams within the United Republic. Aside from the more obscure supers running around, no one seemed to care about things such as a robbery, a mugging, or a car crash.
There was this one mutant, however. Cable. Nathan Summers.

Of course, Cable was the bigger threat type, but his unwavering devotion to a bright future and the creation of Providence allowed for Virgil to see past this. It regarded the telepath as not a savior, but an idol. Virgil couldn't pull any spacetime altering stunts and is much weaker, but he decided to at least try it out and do something good with his life.

Virgil designed a costume made from a spandex-like material and decided to start his vigilantism small in his hometown before eventually moving to Ville de Nouvelle Yorke at fourteen due to his Uncle Gingersnap's job related reasons.

High School Years

The Wall-Crawler became a photographer for the Clairon Quotidien newspaper and magazine after his move to Ville de Nouvelle Yorke, working under one J. Jonah Jameson as a photographer who primarily captured images of superpowered individuals. He served as his muse as Jameson's hatred for Web-Surfer was concerningly lucrative. Jameson would rant about how Webby was a criminal for his boundless distaste for police, suggestions for a better prison system and focus on rehabilitaion rather than punishment, and it being an awful influence. Virgil hated his boss, but he did take some of his words to heart regarding lessening property damage, trauma, and injuries for civillians.

Virgil began his freshman year of high school at West Towne High School, an urban public school riddled with problems and questionable students. It can be described as a stereotypical American public school, filled to the brim with fights, petty drama, threats of violence, and people who reeked of smoke.
Elizabeth Allan originally simply apologized to Virgil for her bullying him all throughout their middle school years a few weeks into their first semester, but they shared a few classes, leading Virgil to very slowly becoming less aggressive and closed-off towards Liz due to her frequently talking to him and partnering for projects, much to her friends' dismay.
Virgil did his best to be a good friend; being supportive, reciprocative, unjudgemental, listening. They had their squabbles and grew despondant at times, along with Virgil's paranoia over the years turning into overprotectiveness of Liz, but they grew to be Virgil's only friend; it hated the rest of the student population and felt genuine repulsion at the idea of making genuine friends with anyone else that attended West Towne, despite the abundance of extracurriculars it participated in.

Virgil mostly took science and math related courses; overly difficult ones, to boot. He excelled at those, but was awful at analyzing and writing stories along with anything art related. His art teacher also despised Virgil — for seemingly no reason — and nearly failed his classes because of it.
He truly did feel nothing but contempt towards West Towne and the majority of students there. Especially as Virgil was frequently reminded that there's something about him people inherently despise and he will most likely never know what that is. His incapability to befriend his peers, frequent shutdowns, and seemingly automatic preference among his schoolmates for literally anyone else but him led to bouts of spiraling throughout his high school career.

Elizabeth and Virgil were stark contrasts, people frequently asked Liz as to how the two of them are good friends due to their differences and Virgil's generally off-putting and strange disposition when they believed Virgil to not be in earshot. Liz never told him about any of these incidents to not upset him.

In the midst of their junior year, Liz declared the two of them to be best friends out of the blue during a lunch period, replacing Flash Thompson. Virgil (and later Flash) attempted to argue with her, however, Liz was quite obstinate and her mind was already set. By senior year, Virgil had became rather clingy, as much as he tried to hide it.

University

Virgil's grades and GPA at his graduation were as unremarkable as his school due to his numerous mental problems, vigilantism, and a few particularly spiteful teachers. His Oscorp science internship, nerdiness, extracurricular participation, determination, and numerous overly difficult classes landed him at Duchess State University in Ville de Nouvelle Yorke, majoring in computer science and astronomy. Virgil managed to convince Elizabeth to attend Empire State University which was close by, leading the two of them to get an apartment together, and one perfect for sneaking out through his window unseen.

Elizabeth returned to their apartment one morning with two of her new ESU peers — Harry Osborne and Gwen Stacy, who were good friends of hers — and forced Virgil to get to know them through pizza, old video games, rambles, and Liz's 'jokes' of kicking both of them out if either of them upset Virgil. This was repeated enough times for Virgil to reluctantly accept Harry and Gwen as his only friends besides Elizabeth, which resulted in a friend group.

Trivia

  • Canada reminds him of Rush (band) and Deadpool rather than freezing weather and maple syrup. He hates himself for this.
  • Has weird obsessions with computers, old video games, outer space, and superpowered individuals, along with engineering on occasion. The superhero obsession comes in handy with villains.
  • Virgil is transmasc. His gender is something masculine; he describes it as "video games, dragons, and comic books".
  • It may or may not be the only person in his entire bloodline to not be named after a consumable item.
  • His favorite foods are beignets, awful weirdly greasy thick-crusted pepperoni pizza, and cinnamon French toast.
  • Makes amazing sandwiches and French toast... but can only cook those two items; fucks up everything else. His scrambled eggs resemble molten rock or a symbiote variant.
  • Generally likes rock songs from the 1970s to 1990s, but isn't picky about genres. Everything from catchy pop songs to awful and mid-as-fuck 1970s progressive rock two people have ever heard of.
  • Its favorite songs include We're Not Gonna Take It by Twisted Sister, Walk This Way by Aerosmith, and Heartbreaker by Pat Benatar.
  • He sometimes blasts music when fighting, mainly Girls Just Want To Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper.
  • In terms of video games, Virgil mostly likes things that are dated from the 1970s to 2000s regardless of genre. He loves SoulCalibur (1995), Metal Slug (1996), and LSD Dream Emulator (1998), among others.
  • Extremely touch-starved, also touch-repulsed. Fighting is as close to human contact as Virgil gets besides the occasional gesture from Liz.
