PART I: ABOUT THE CREATOR

What name do you go by online?
Kirimu or Machine. I've used a lot of other names in the past and, most likely, I'll still respond to them.

How long have you been creating OCs?
Since I was nine-years-old or so?

Where do you keep all the info on your OCs? In a notebook? On a website? Do you share your OC profiles or stories with anyone?
Some of it is on this very website, but nearly all of it is in a private Discord server with just myself in it. Yeah yeah I know Discord is rotten and this is a horrible idea so I want to figure some other method of recordkeeping beyond copious Discord forums. Like, notebooks, maybe.

Do you consider yourself primarily a writer, artist, role-player, or something else?
Looking at this makes me want to refer to myself as "a guy who likes drawing and writing," but yeah. Artist-writer guy here. I also love the idea of roleplay and would be more than down to try it someday (to the point I'd say it's a dream of mine), but I don't know who to talk to or where to begin with that. I've never been much of the social type and I don't know how well I'd fare with that.

What first inspired you to start making characters?
Sigh… Five Nights at Freddy's. I was super into the franchise when I was a wee lad. Then, Undertale came out and I was… a goner, one could say.

What piece of media or fictional world has influenced your OCs the most?
Undertale and Marvel. Double cringe-fest.

Which creator, professional or not, inspires you most?
I would never financially recover if I admitted who.

How many OCs do you estimate you have?
Oh no. Shit. I actually don't know. I did my best to count them and I ended with the number 127 (sixty of them are from TWWS), but this is most likely extremely off.

What genre do you enjoy creating in most? What genre do you rarely create in?
I like sci-fi, but I find a lot of it to be bland. I can only tolerate so many cyberpunk dystopias that are just Neuromancer and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep with maybe one creative change before I get sick of them. Anyway, I rarely touch horror ever because I'm bad at being scary.

What is your favorite character archetype?
Characters with no morals who will stop at nothing but getting That One Thing or Person. I also like big goofy men.

What character trope are you tired of seeing?
Characters who are hellbent on getting good grades to appease high expectations of themselves. Do I get it? Yes. However, I can't help but find it annoying to the point where it genuinely pisses me off. Maybe it's America's shitty educational system taking its toll on me though.

What trope do you avoid?
Young white skinny men with silly personalities. Like, I'm talking "goofy ahh" and "haha silly car x3 I have the 'tism." I need not of your white femboys. Begone.

What trope or archetype do you not have and want to create?
See above.

What shipping trope can you never resist? What shipping trope is not your cup of tea?
When I was a tween, I remember scouring the web for anything related to extremely obsessive people doing extremely unhinged things for the object of their affections who was extremely not into them at all whatsoever. I'm trying not to use the word 'yandere' here because it doesn't feel befitting of the depravity I was looking for, but think Sasha. Other than that, I'm not into shipping at all and don't care. …But I, ironically, hate dark romance tropes with a passion.

What emotion do you enjoy exploring most?
Is dehumanization an emotion?

What emotion is hardest for you to write?
Love.

What is your opinion on dark themes and characters?
I love that shit. Keep doing that shit. Don't completely fuck it up, but dark themes and characters are important. Also ignore the shipping trope question please.

What design aesthetic best describes your tastes? What design aesthetic do you dislike?
Whatever the aesthetic of TWWS is. I also enjoy liminal spaces and dreamlike/fantastical architecture, especially if they incorporate technology or a bad 2000s childhood themes into them somehow. And '90s edutainment games; early 3D landscapes. And video arcades. I don't know internet aesthetics at all, but I like these.

What charm point/moe point do you often include in your OC designs?
Squishy faces. Very marketable.

Explain your OC process: do you design characters visually before writing them? Do your characters tend to change significantly over time?
I try thinking of a vague idea of who I want a certain character to be both personality and story-wise most of the time. Other times, I'm inspired by a person's outfit I saw in public, a website, a dream, or other visual things, which lead me to visually design and work out a personality as I go before I make up a backstory and their place in the story.

How often do you redesign OCs?
Not often, if ever, aside from outfit changes.

Do you keep character references organized? What tools, apps, or websites do you utilize to help keep you organized?
I do not reference. I do not organize. I do not use anything aside from one million Discord channels and my mind palace. And if I forget, I KILL MYSELF.

Do you listen to music while creating?
Yeh.

Link a song or album you associate with your OC/story.
I think TWWS is too broad in scope for me to come up with a singular song, but I associate Nouvelle-Yorke as a city with Sci-Fi-Fi by Eureka!. Also, I seem to associate TWWS with metal/hard rock and shibuya-kei, which I find funny.

What is one thing all your characters seem to have in common?
Mental illness.

What is something you hope people feel when they see your work?
I don't know. I hope you don't hate me for my work.

What kind of people do you think are drawn to your characters and stories?
I don't know. I only made this for fun and I made it for me.

What keeps you creating OCs?
I like making weird stories.

PART II: YOUR OC COLLECTION

What was your very first OC like?
She was a red anthropomorphic rabbit named Flame with appropriately flame-themed patterns on her fur. She wore shorts along with a sweater over a crop top. She's also a she-devil apparently and had beef with a pirate rabbit named Ocean who drank beer. Ocean is actually one of two rabbit OCs I made as a kid who likes alcohol. Why did I do that.

Do you still have your oldest OC?
Flame has been laid to rest. She never had a story or anything, anyway. She was just kind of there.

Which OC was created most recently? What inspired them?
Two characters, same story. I wanted to develop TWWS' history more but I also was playing a lot of LIVEALIVE and greatly enjoyed Sundown's chapter and really wanted to make cowboys, so I did. A cowboy and a bounty hunter in the year 2112, when something weird happened. This isn't exactly TWWS history because I also wanted something vagely cosmic horror-related in there, but who knows. I'll have to work on it.

Which OC are you most proud of?
All of them. Or maybe none of them. One or the other. Or both at once.

Which OC was easiest to create?
None of them.

Which OC was hardest to create?
All of them. Do you know how hard it is to make people when you don't talk to anyone?

From you or from others, which OC receives the most attention?
SIGH. Me bringing up OCs in a conversation is an XK-Class End-of-the-World Scenario so I'll just say Virgil and his friends from me. I like them and I like forcing them to hang out and chill. Also Sasha for some reason can someone get her out of here already goddamn.

From you or from others, which OC do you wish received more attention?
All of them.

Which OC is your favorite to draw? Which is the hardest to draw?
I like drawing Liz. Marlowe doesn't have a proper thumbnail because drawing box braids as dog ears is scary.

Which OC is your favorite to write? Which is the hardest to write?
All of them are difficult to write.

Which OC would you trust with your deepest secret?
MJ isn't on the site yet, but she's not a snitch.

Which OC absolutely cannot be trusted?
Sasha. Oh and Noémie will sell your information but at least she'll pretend to be respectful about it.

What OC is most similar to you, in appearance, personality, or both?
Virgil. He is technically my Spider-sona, regardless of how much I've distanced both of us from that label. Although, all of my characters have some part of me to some extent. So are all of my OCs like me, or am I like all of them?

Which OC was born from anger?
John President. Yes, that's his name. Yes, he's the President of the United Republic at this current time point. No, I'm not sure if he'll get a full profile. Yes, I hate being American.

Which OC was born from sadness?
Ghyslaine.

Which OC exists because there was something you wanted to see in fiction but could not find?
All of them.
I have a bad time relating to people and vice versa, so I also struggle with relating to characters in fiction regardless of how many microlabels a writer can shove into a character. My ten-year-old self deduced that I'm just a weird person, a one-of-a-kind space case, a looney. I don't think I've ever been introduced to a single person nor character I could "see myself" in to any extent. But maybe that's an issue more so concerning empathy.
So, now I "see myself" in all of my characters. Even the ones who are downright heinous people. …If that makes any sense.

Choose an OC. What fate are they doomed to repeat?
I wonder if Liz will be driven to suicide from the pre-Nouvelle-Yorke small town life. Isn't daily life in small towns or suburbs kind of like repeating a sunny day where nothing changes, anyway?

If all your OCs met in one room, what would happen?
Well, most TWWS characters are in Nouvelle-Yorke at the same time, which is one big room, right?

PART III: YOUR FAVORITE OC

What is your favorite OC's full name? Do they have nicknames?
I don't have a concrete favorite. It changes. Why don't we go with Ghyslaine since I've been thinking of them lately? Her name is Ghyslaine Blanchefleur LaRue. She's sometimes called Melpomene because she met a tipsy — but infatuated — MJ at a house party (she was invited by Liz and was too scared to decline) and bonded with the hoes by pulling a random topic (Muses) out of her ass out of panic.

Describe their appearance. What is their voice like?
Sad, tall, and lanky girl who covers up due to both self-image issues and for comfort. Her voice is soft and raspy.

What is their occupation?
She's a university student majoring in biology who's also aiming for a forensics science certificate at Empire State. She's also a part-time R&D intern at Oscorp.

What is their most distinctive feature?
Apple hat.

What first impression do people get from them?
A friend of mine said Ghyslaine's thumbnail reminded her of Falin Touden from Dungeon Meshi. Accurate.

What is their greatest flaw?
She's… submissive. Not submissive and breedable, I mean that she just kind of takes bad things that happen to her without struggle because why bother? It will happen again but worse and she deserves it in its entirety. This is what fate is: Murphy's law.

What is something they secretly wish people understood about them?
Just to be understood at all. Even a little bit. By anyone. Please.

How would their best friend describe them?
Okay, let's go with Liz here. Liz describes Ghyslaine as a quiet wet towel of a girl who doesn't speak until she's filled with absolute certainty. She's careful, considerate, and delicate, much like a flower. Reserved and soft-spoken until she gets a chance to yap about something she likes with people who listen. Liz wishes Ghyslaine would get out of their shell more often, but they can take things one step at a time at any pace.

What event shaped them most?
One of the best things to ever happen to them was meeting Liz.

What secret are they keeping?
Oh, you know. The whole 'I see myself as inherently inferior for reasons unbeknownst to me but is as clear as day to everyone else' thing.

Who is most important to them?
Their friends.

What qualities attract them to someone? What qualities immediately repel them?
They like people who are like them in some respect: careful, kind, understanding, observant. To Ghyslaine's own confusion, they like people who would give them a chance without dismissing them outright and making a mockery of them. However, Ghyslaine's never been good with the loud, harsh, obnoxious, thrill-seeking types. Bad memories with those.

What would break their heart?
Being talked about behind their back by the people they trust most. Being a joke they're not in on by those they love. Was nothing real about such a relationship? Was she just a running gag?

What is a skill they're unexpectedly good at?
Surprisingly good at coming up with tunes and lyrics on the spot.

What is something they're terrible at?
Socializing.

What song reminds you most of this OC?
The Killing Moon.

Which animal represents them best?
Ghyslaine reminds me of a Syrian hamster.

If they had a signature scent, what would it be?
Some kind of cozy smell. Like pumpkin or any cheap perfume bottle labeled as 'apple blossom.' Although, I can't seem to help but imagine her smelling like cinnamon.

If they were turned into a doll or figurine, what accessories would be included?
A laptop and guitar.

Oh no! Your OC magically turned into a dish. What kind of food did they turn into?
Honey-roasted cashews.

What would their social media account look like?
She has a private social media account with only one post and just her friends following her. She never uses it ever except to look at said friends' posts. Her blog, however… She just rambles on and on about her life or things that are interesting to her: ghosts, cryptids, horror, true crime and VNY's criminal underworld, weird video games, etc.

Which fictional character from an existing IP would they absolutely hate?
Deadpool. Deadpool already exists in TWWS and she hates him.

Why do you love this OC?
Why wouldn't I?

PART IV: LET'S DIG DEEPER

Pick a few of your favorite OCs. What do they all have in common? What do you think that reveals about you?
Okay fine let's do The Friends (Virgil, Liz, MJ, Ghyslaine, and Harvey) again. I will abstain from calling them favorites though. They all love each other as people; they like hanging out and help each other when in need. They (especially Liz) dislike being separated for too long but are also so scared to reveal who they truly are as people out of fear to the point they may as well be strangers. All of them are a bit too critical and might be cynical, which is probably a byproduct of their respective upbringings, resulting in that simmering fear of being too cringe, I guess you could say. Neurotic and hateful, but love each other over everything else.
I wonder what that means about me…

Which OC is most misunderstood by your friends & followers? Why do you think others interpret them differently than you intended?
All of my characters are going to be misunderstood both because that's just how humans work and I never talk about them in depth to anyone ever. Anyway I don't think Virgil nor Liz will actually be understood ever.

If someone analyzed your OC collection without knowing anything about you, what conclusions would they reach about your personality, values, fears, and interests? Would they be accurate?
They'd think I'm a nerd. Sniffles. And they'd be right. :'(

Which OC embodies a version of yourself that you left behind? Which OC embodies the ideal version of you?
Oooh… I don't have any perfect embodiments, but I'd say Liz when she was a young kid. Her, and preteen Virgil. Sanya also reminds me of when I was younger and who I could've been if I hadn't changed. Nearly all of my OCs are ideal versions of me in some respect.

What recurring wound appears throughout your cast? Abandonment, loneliness, duty, failure, etc.? Why do you think that wound appears so often?
Loneliness. Mental illness. Desperation. Fantasies, dreams, and wishes. Go figure.

I think all of my stories have too many questions they want to answer for me to say much.

Which aspect of yourself appears in your villains but rarely in your protagonists?
There aren't any villains in TWWS. Even if you count Webby's rouges' gallery as 'villains,' the 'civilians' and 'heroes' are just as weird as them.

Which OC would understand your darkest thought without judging you? Which OC contains the impulses you refuse to act upon?
Pyrel would be a bro. I don't think they'd understand the entirety of my emotions, but they wouldn't even ask any follow-up questions because they don't need to. Pyrel also holds a lot of impulses, now that I think about it. They're loud, berating, and nearly sadist levels of violent, but they're efficient along with precise with said brutality. We don't agree over a lot of things, but I could look over who they've killed and say, "Yeah okay fair" to some of their targets.

What would your oldest OC say about the person you've become?
I don't think Flame would say anything man.

2. How long have you been making websites?
Surprisingly, around four years now.

3. And what got you into the hobby?
I stumbled upon Neocities one day at around the same time I discovered Hypnospace Outlaw. I was like, "Damn, this 'web dev' stuff is pretty sick. So here we are.

4. What kind of website are you most interested in?
I like personal things. That's probably a basic ass answer — especially since I'm, ironically, a very impersonal person — but I like learning bits and pieces of people's lives; I find it to be far more intimate than social media microblogging as webmasters tend to go into a lot of depth with uniquely styled pages. Weird digital escapism, I suppose.

5. What's your workflow? Do you plan your websites out thoroughly or do you come up with the design as you go along?
Fuck it we ball.

6. Please link to your biggest inspirations.
I wouldn't recover if I told you.

7. What's your favourite part about making websites?
Kind of weird, but when I get into a groove. My freaky ass friend calls this a 'flow state,' but I feel like 'groove' fits me better. I just get carried away because the web dev gods have temporarily blessed me.

8. And the thing you struggle with the most?
Writing. Not code, just writing bios and such. I'm not good at different voices and figuring out which trait to give higher priority to above the rest in order to display that in a few text boxes. It's like everything gets siphoned out of me, really.

9. Do you keep the same layout on all of your pages? Or do you use different ones?
Same layout because I'm lazy as hell. Maybe different layouts will come in the future, but I need to stay sane first.

10. How confident are you with CSS?
Not at all. Sometimes there's some things I can say I definitively know how to do, but most of it is some RNG shit.

11. Do you know how to correctly use <dl>?
No.

12. What is your favourite HTML element?
You big fucking nerd. Anyway, it's div (classes); a very pussy answer.

13. If you're making a new web page from scratch, what is the first thing you do?

Kinda sorta. Not in a frontend environment (you can tell because I'm employed), but I did take a two semester AP class in high school about it… after learning Java first, for some reason.

No, but I want to learn it.

I can't tell. I guess?? Superheroes and it's blue everywhere.

17. Are you more focused on content or design?
I guess content in terms of my own website?

I'm thinking of owning one soon. Dunno what domain though. Dynaknights.dev? Web.surf? Web-surfer.moe? Who knows.

19. What do you think of nostalgia-focused or "retro" websites?
Cool. I think they're cool. Not for me since, most of the time, they predate me by a long shot, but I enjoy them all the same. Even if I think the nostalgia will wear off quickly and not be as memorable if a webmaster doesn't prioritize other elements and character.

20. Is your HTML valid? Do you even check?
Don't do this to me.

21. What are your opinion on buttons and banners?
Awesome-sauce. I am the buttonling. Feed me.

22. What do you think of button walls in particular?
Awesome-saucer. I love being able to find cool new sites through interesting little graphics.

23. If you started over again, would you make something similar or completely different?
This site? Start all over and make the same damn thing again. I don't see myself as particularly interesting, but I like my characters.

24. Are you envious of other people's websites?
Can't say I'm not. I always feel a need to, like… subsume, so to speak. Become and display. Maybe that's just an art thing though? I wish I was any and every other webmaster but myself.

25. What text editor do you use?
I write long things (like this questionnaire) in Ellipsus and shorter snippets directly into VS Codium. Sometimes I use Notepad++, but not often.

26. Why do you use that one?
Lazy. And both Google and Microsoft are evil. This seemed like a good bet.

27. Do you host your image files on your web server, or on another host?
Neocities. Though, I'd like to self-host one day.

28. This might not be relevant to you, but what's your opinion on the Neocities vs. Nekoweb debate?
I don't care what you use, but I'm sticking with Neocities because Nekoweb's features — while nice — are overwhelming to me. Also Neocities has Git support as a free feature.

29. How much server space would you estimate your main website takes up?
I don't know.

30. Do you keep local backups of your files?
Yeah.

31. Do you prefer simple or highly visual websites?
Depends on what it's going for, but I like visuals a lot.

32. Do you stick to certain colours? Do you do that on purpose, or is it your subconscious?

A little. Mostly due to that aforementioned envy, which stresses me the hell out for genuinely no reason at times.

I know a few other webmasters, but I'd only consider one of them to be a friend. Even then, we don't talk much anymore. Beyond asking "which assets should I use" and VERY begrudgingly asking for coding help among non-webmaster buddies, I'm a lone wolf… heh…

Hope not.

It used to be pretty often before I got stuck in the downward slope of adulthood.

Eh. Kinda sorta? I'm picky and worried about what a nonexistent audience will think of my work. Gotta make it look pretty.

38. Is your website more you-focused, hobby-focused, or outside world-focused?
Hobby-focused, I guess. Do paracosms qualify as hobbies? I guess also me-focused because… paracosm.

No. I'd rather not because professionally designed websites look… boring.

No. I'd rather not because professionally designed websites look… boring. Anyway, I work a stereotypical job and I wish I didn't.

41. Do you communicate with people by email very much?
Not casually. I don't have a problem with communicating over email since my text messages just sound like cropped emails anyways. I've just never been much of a social person is all.

42. Some people reject social media and use websites as a replacement. Do you keep social media outside of your website?
I have some accounts that I've kind of just abandoned. I've seen the term 'digital homelessness/nomad' be used and I guess that's me. I only really use YouTube. The indie web/web revival has effectively replaced my social media usage, but most of that replacement stems from engaging in other activities, like drawing, reading, video games, or reading random Wikipedia articles about French gastronomy.

43. How about instant messengers? Do you use a mainstream one like Discord or Telegram? Or something like Matrix? Do you avoid them?
I only use Discord because my friends have Discord and because my paracosm notes are there. Even then, I've been engaging with the platform far less than I used to.

44. Do you listen to music while you work on websites? If so, what kinds of artists?
Hell yeah, man. I listen to whatever looks interesting if I'm not watching Vinesauce or a video essay, which is mostly playlists and albums of random genres and artists.

45. Do you keep everything you make on one website, or do you have more than one?
There's only one website. You're looking at it.

46. On a similar note, do you keep to one topic on your site, or many?
Eh. Me and my paracosm.

47. Do you present your real self, or at least try? Or do you construct a persona on purpose?
I don't think I could ever play a persona, even if I wanted to. I got an A in theatre, but I've never been a good actor. I even type the way I talk. What more could you want?

I wish, but no. Though, I am picky about who I consider friends.

49. Are you happy with the way HTML and CSS currently work?
They're fine.

50. What are practices that you think people should avoid?
Procrastination is an evil curse, isn't it?

Autism. Half-joke. I can only operate because I'm obviously so normal and well-regulated about things I like… Although, I don't truly know if I have autism and I probably never will.

52. Do you use a lot of semantic HTML? Or are you guilty of generic structure?
I'm currently trying to integrate more semantic stuff. Dunno how well that's going for me. Maybe I'm overdoing it? Maybe I'm not?

53. Do you consider different browsers?
No.

54. Speaking of, what's your preferred browser? Convince your readers why they should use it.
Firefox. Not made by Microsoft (evil) or Google (also evil). Though, seems like Firefox, too, is shooting itself in the dick, so I'm instead thinking of switching to Librewolf.

55. And what OS are you on?
…Windows 11.

56. Do you have a strong opinion on that, or do you just happen to use it?
I hate Windows 11 so much. I wish there was more customization options and no AI and less bloat and Minecraft not yelling at me over my Microsoft account. I wish I could use Linux, but I don't have time or energy to be Linux-savvy. One day though…

57. Are your websites mobile-friendly?
I hope so.

58. What are your thoughts on autoplay?
Cool. Just warn me before you fuck me so I can mute the page. I listen to my own music most of the time and get pretty annoyed if not cautioned.

59. What are your thoughts on webrings? Are you in any?
Awesome-saucer-er. I love finding people who share a common interest/goal. That's sick as hell. Community-maxxing, as the kids say.

60. Do you have any web shrines? What do you like to see in that sort of page?
No… It's on my list though. I like seeing people's relationship with certain topics and how that's developed. Is that creepy? I dunno.

61. Are your websites "cliche", in your opinion?
I guess? I don't really know. There's a lot of sites archiving OC lore and information, so I suppose so. I haven't seen many websites centered around Spider-sonas (that are still active) though.

62. What is your ideal website? Are you striving for that, or for something else?
Fuck if I know.

63. Are you an artist? Do you draw or design your own assets?
Yes, artist here. I'll get around to drawing assets someday.

64. What are your favourite resource sites?
…Tumblr. I don't post nor browse anymore. I just nab resources and scatter. Other than that, I hop around random Neocities hoards.

Dunno.

66. What's your biggest advice for a new webmaster?
Pats shoulder. You're going to get very sick of updating every single HTML element on your site one day. Static site generator. Please. Save yourself.

67. Do you keep all your styling in CSS? Or do you hard-code some?
I hard-code whatever doesn't obey me and toss it into a Nunjucks template.

68. What do you think of frameset layouts?
Cool. Browser support seems dubious though.

69. How about table-based layouts?
Weird but okay.

70. Do you subscribe to the ideas of "one-column", "two-column" and "three-column" layouts? Do you use any of these?
I think you can design your site however you want as long as you like it. That's to say I don't care.

71. Do you spend longer on the HTML or the CSS?
CSS. Save me.

72. Have you ever made a page with no CSS? It's useful for your thoughts.
Technically, I exclusively work with Markdown when creating individual pages most of the time, then they're 'translated' into HTML/CSS.

73. Do you ever find yourself making layouts with nothing to put on them? Or do you only make layouts when the need arises?
I'm not a layouts guy. I make stuff when I need it or can't stop thinking about it.

I used to program for class and fun. I haven't touched the hobby recently since life's been hitting me with successive curveballs though.
I'd like to get back into it since I'm all rusty, but maybe it'll come when I'm forced to take a computer science class again. I learned Java and JavaScript, with a little bit of Python, C#, and C++.

90. Speaking of programs that help you make websites, what do you think of static site generators (SSGs)? Have you ever used one?
Yes! I use Eleventy and it's a goddamn life saver even though I'm terrible at it! I'm free from eternal nitpicky tedium!!

No. I look at Neocities' traffic tracker because I feel like I'll go bonkers if I had such intimidating numbers on my site.
