Technology

Technology is a man's best friend when it comes to the post-present!
From armored technological suits that grant the wearers enhanced superpower-like abilities to combat the "legitimate and natural" supers/mutated to the tiny helper bots that scuttle across the streets in order to keep their environments clean and healthy, technological advancements have never been a dwindling resource.
...However, one could say that the engineers that make and maintain the pieces of technology are downright deranged at best. Creativity is in a happy abundance, so to speak.

Over the course of centuries, humanity grew bored with the staleness of streamlining beloved artificial creations to absolute perfection in order to automate any and every human task -- a billionaire's definition of bliss; technological feats were nothing more than worthwhile investments made by those in power who instructed top engineers and designers to construct automatons according the the wealthy few's perception of what the people want, which -- in reality -- was simply abiding by an unspoken visual standard for products among the other wealthy few. The minimalistic nature of humanity's creations and way of life had been a staple of humanity until a violent string of assassinations among fossil fuel conglomerates protesting and stalling the production of a Dyson sphere had occurred, which sparked an insurrection of creativity across the globe!

More art and music of all genres and cultures! Do what you want with your own two grubby hands and feet! Be bold! Be out there!! Be outspoken!!!
Most importantly, quit bending over backwards to please the old fuckers in power who would vomit and die from seeing a polyamorous couple! Take the Earth back from people who are a wedgie away from kissing the polished wood of a coffin, for life is to relish in and explore! Glory be to the Stars!

As humanity had begun a trend of embracing uniqueness, diversity, and creativity, their creations reflected these ideals. Technology was 'out there' and optimization (of both code and physical parts) was a rather low priority in terms of engineering. It wasn't entirely unimportant, but people chucked out the idealizations of an entirely streamlined life and embraced the inconvienient, even opting to turn back to technology from before the 21st century: clamshell phones, MP3 players, DVDs, arcades, giant PCs, you name it. Even the more 'sci-fi-ish high-tech' ends of Earth-256-B's technological spectrum (e.g., stellar engines, rockets, powered suits, etc) still mostly reflected the same trends of inconvenience and general derangement.
Despite being in the far-flung future, someone from the 21st century would be rather surprised to see how mundane it all is beyond future's end.

Thinking Machines

Main article: Thinking Machines and the Mechanical Nature

ROBOTS!! You saw this coming, right? Right? Please tell me you didn't strut over here, in this sci-fi/Marvel/video game/science nerd wonderland, without anticipating robots or some major machine influence.

There's no robot takeover or anything, the laws put into place after Ultron's reign in the 2700s ensured that... but nothing from the past truly stays dead.

Megastructures

Solarfuse

The Solarfuse is a Dyson swarm (a kind of class-B stellar engine) orbiting and harvesting the energy of Surya. It's the primary source of power for Earthlings, aside from nuclear power, and is what defines Earth as a type II civilization. Its creation in the mid-2500s kickstarted an era known as the Astro-Nuclear Age.

There have been discussions about whether or not to construct another Dyson swarm around the closest star to the Twin Suns: Proxima Centauri. This suggestion arises from the concern of Surya's death and Proxima Centauri being a small, low-mass star that will remain as an M-type main-sequence star (red dwarf) for around four trillion years. It's not close to death like Surya but also not a large, blazing hot thing like Sol.

Matrioshka Brains

Ever since the culmination of the Solarfuse, The United Republic of Leathucaria has been competing against China, Wakanda, Russia, and Canada to build a functional, useful, and efficient quantum computer. This race eventually escalated into which country will create a matrioshka brain first, utilizing the waste heat of the Solarfuse -- or another Dyson swarm/stellar engine -- as a power source.

The question of how to actually launch the payloads into space... is under heavy debate at the moment.

Superpowered Equipment

The term superpwoered equipment refers to equipment created to combat the natural advantages of mutated individuals, especially if they're supers.
When supers -- the pioneers of which all being mutants or mutates -- were beginning to gain traction for their mighty feats, many homo sapiens had began to get jealous to the point of creating their own ways of replicating the mutagenic nature the X-Gene provides: weapons and armor.

Powered Suits

Powered suits, superpowered suits, (super)powered armor, and (super)powered exoskeletons are all terms that refer to technological armor that protects the wearer from violent attacks, whether that be through having internal mechanisms to dodge/fly away, parrying, or rendering the wearer nigh-impervious to such displays, they all get the job done.
Powered armor does not typically cover the full body due to the extreme weight and sluggishness that accompanies it; rather, most commonly, the limbs hold small, thin armor that grants superhuman abilities (e.g., Iron Man's repulsors), while the vital areas are secured by thicker, stronger armor that usually lacks any sort of ability or advantage other than protection.

Powered suits, despite their illegality, are incredibly common among supers all across the morality spectrum, regardless of if they're human, mutant, or a mutate. Typically, mutated individuals wear powered armor to provide extra advantages their mutation does not, which is usually increased strength and durability.

Powered suit enthusiasts: Tony Stark (Iron Man), Lisin Kasilania (Scorpion), Sterrennacht Sytsevich (Ox).

Anti-Mutagenic Weapons

Anti-mutagenic weapons (AMW) or superpowered weapons refer to types of weapons specifically made, like powered armor, to combat mutated individuals and supers. Typically, this refers to firearms. However, the term can also include melee weapons, heavy artilery, missiles, etc created for the same cause.

The question of what qualifies as an anti-mutagenic weapon as opposed to a regular weapon that just so happens to be capable of taking down a mutated individual depends on the components within the weapons, as not all are created equal.
Some hold internal mechanisms that can detect the presence of and (at least partially) neutralize the X-Gene through a rather invasive process of literally scanning one's DNA and entering a process of elimation to find a gene that's "drastically different" from the rest, as observing the X-Gene is still an unknown feat. Most commonly, weapons are created to combat specific mutations, such as an web dissolving fluid for Web-Surfer or shocking Electro with enough volts for her to 'short circuit.'
Normal weapons will do just fine though... if they're strong enough.

Trivia

  • Each individual unit that comprises the Solarfuse (think of drones with solar panels on them) are not thinking machines due to them not needing a human consciousness/human-like consciousness to operate. They're your run-of-the-mill robot... that is powered by a star, of course.
  • There have been ideas circulating of utilizing an omega-level mutant (particularly Nathan Summers) as a power source, which may or may not be endorsed by Pres. John President and may or may not have led to disppearances among the mutated and non-mutated alike.
  • As per international law, it's technically illegal to own powered suits and weapons that have not been officially recognized and registered by a country's respective government, with more emphasis placed on the latter. The trend of intertwining suits and armor, making one's powered suit double as a weapon (e.g., Black Panther's kinetic energy absorption) is a subject of debate as to whether or not those cases violates those laws.
  • As per Leathucarian law, it's technically legal to use an unregistered powered suit or weapon in cases of self-defense (or deer hunting, if you're in the Midwest).
  • No, there's no nanotech here. I don't care that this is a sci-fi setting. This includes Iron Man's suit, think the classic red and gold suit from the early Iron Man movies.
