Ville-de-Nouvelle-Yorke is a city that never sleeps, but always dreams.

It's chock-full of contradictions like that; keeping its eyes bloodshot while foaming at the mouth like a rabid animal, but still keeping those same eyes glued to the Stars, trying endlessly to touch the sky while drowning in its own perfect filth.

After the Empty Eras' end, reformation and generational compensation was promised by exponentially wealthy elites. Flowery speeches daisy-chained upon shimmering podiums by politicians had branded Nouvelle-Yorke as Stardom incarnate; a paragon of an idealistic future.
Behold, the fruits of superficial labor rendered La Pomme Grosse as yet another star-gilded hell. Superficial labor by superficial politicians bred a superficial society who praises spectacle and presentation beyond all else.

The architecture is daring, bold, nigh-unconceivable. Skyscrapers, streets, and landmarks each seemed to exude auras of character through their elaborate swooping arches and eternally twisting bridges. Ornate pillars, along with statues, expertly crafted by sculptors made the comeback of a lifetime by lining streets, decorating entranceways, and offering public places to sit and rest.
Hell, even local third spaces of all kinds have begun springing up from their graves. Parks are happily abundant with more flora and fauna than ever, Nouvelle-Yorke's transportation and housing systems have been completely re-imagined from scratch with an emphasis on walkability and community. Not to mention the cleanliness, of course, tended to by diligent robots created by expert Lucille Deckard and funded by Oscorp to drastically improve the quality of life. It's no wonder people had swallowed politician's thorned words when they were first spouted when the results are like this.
…Such is the superficial presentation of Nouvelle-Yorke; a city that endlessly brags about its changes since the repulsive 21st century.

Its denizens, however, haven't changed a bit; the only difference is that the city they live in isn't painted in drab greys and browns like it used to be. Ville-de-Nouvelle-Yorke does have one of the highest crime rates in the world, after all.
Its economy, along with the rest of the United Republic, is in shambles. Poverty is more rampant than ever. This, along with the Universe's decline has spawned an uptick in particularly powerful and violent criminals, prompting an oppositional crime-fighting sort to emerge from the rubble of extreme property damage, vowing to protect the public from themselves, all the while being blinded by their own hubris and the status quo.

Ville-de-Nouvelle-Yorke is the mighty City of Dreams, but trouble simmers underneath paradise. The only question is what to do about it. Maybe we'll never know.

Le Clairon Quotidien!

Le Clairon Quotidien! ("Nouvelle-Yorke's Blooming Gazette!"), sometimes colloquially called Le Clairon or The Bugle, is a Leathucarian news tabloid/podcast/radio show stationed in the heart of downtown Manhattan, Nouvelle-Yorke.
Its editor and publisher-in-chief, Jean-Jacquet Jacquemond du Jort (typically referred to as J.J. Jacquemond), is the host of both the podcast and radio show. This is manageable for Jacquemond because both the podcast and the radio show use the exact same clips; the radio show is recorded live, then the audio is uploaded as a podcast later.

Each and every one of these news formats mainly focuses on criticizing supers, discussing current events, and — rarely — exploring Nouvelle-Yorke's way of life. Mostly, it focuses on Web-Surfer and anything involved with him; partially due to Jacquemond's hatred for the super, but also due to Web-Surfer's popularity within the superpowered scene.
Although, interestingly, Le Clairon owns a subsidiary magazine called Le Rêve Super!, which also focuses on supers, but in a more celebrity-like lens similarly to that of fashion/gossip magazines. Le Rêve includes romance, personal drama, rumors, exclusive interviews/photoshoots with popular supers, and other stereotypical subjects.
Le Rêve was birthed from financial desperation within the parent company. However, much to Jacquemond's dismay, he can't shut it down because it's still a major hit among predominantly young women and girls. Jacquemond is not a man to turn down extra cash. Thus, it begrudgingly remains alongside Le Clairon.

Le Clairon's accusatory nature has led it to be discredited as a valid source far and wide, especially for anything regarding superpowered individuals. However, it remains afloat because people find Jacquemond and his hysteric yelling entertaining.

Notes

  • Nouvelle-Yorke is separated into five boroughs: Manhattan, Lourdes, the Bronx, Islandy McIsland Face, and Roi des Chiens.

Trivia

  • Wade Wilson declared himself to be the King of the Rats and legally changed the name of Staten Island to Islandy McIsland Face, as decided through a social media poll. This plot of land is nearly always referred to as Staten Island despite this, but Wade will not let lawmakers change the name.
  • Nouvelle-Yorke is having a 1990s fashion/lifestyle resurgence at the moment. This isn't limited to clothing; clamshell phones, hairstyles, makeup, technology, etc. ring vaguely of the 1990s but bastardized, romanticized, and idealized, so to speak.
  • The style people would refer to as Parisian Girly is also making a strange comeback now that America has rotten, festered, butchered French in its culture.
  • The most popular dog breed is the poodle.
  • Ballets, plays, mascot cafés, magazines, and puppet shows are in style. Who knew?
  • Very, very intense snowball fights are common among children because most of them idolize supers/find them cool and want to be them.
  • The city smells vaguely flowery all of the time, even in its more seedy parts, due to the sheer amount of flora everywhere.
  • J.J. Jacquemond is not anti-mutant. He just really dislikes most supers and is very vocally grumpy about them.
  • Holds grand celebrations for holidays, including songs, parades, discounts, themed foods, plays, the whole nine yards. The most prominent are: each part of the Seasonal Quartet, Mardis Gras, Halloween, Seven Deaths, l'Enfer Blanc, and New Year's. It's a bit excessive.
  • Other holidays, such as history months, Pride Month, Veteran's Month, Chinese New Year, etc. each are wildly celebrated in certain districts of the city.
  • Despite the major French colonization influence, VNY still uses the imperial system.
